Did you know that this is our 45th WordPress Wednesday article? Yep! We’ve been at it for nearly a year now. Often during that time, we’ve explored LSCWP’s inner workings. We’ve frequently repeated how closely-connected the plugin is to LiteSpeed’s web server products, and how the plugin just does not work without the server!

Well, surprise, surprise! This week marks a significant departure from that message…

The Big News

You no longer need a LiteSpeed Web Server to use LSCache for WordPress.

Wait, what?

Really. It’s true. We have taken some of the optimization features that are not related to caching, and made them available for use by anyone. No LiteSpeed server required.

You will still, of course, need a LiteSpeed server with the LSCache module enabled in order to use the page-caching features of the plugin. This goes back to what we have talked about many times before: LSCache is a server-level cache, and the plugin provides an interface which you can use to control that cache. This is still true.

But now we are welcoming users from all web server backgrounds to give LSCWP’s optimization features a try!

If you’re new here, Welcome! Here’s a handy guide to the LSCWP optimization features as of this writing.

The General Features may be used by anyone using any web server.

The LiteSpeed Exclusive Features continue to require a LiteSpeed server with the LSCache module enabled. (If you want to try these features, why not get a 15-day LiteSpeed Web Server trial license?)

I tried WordPress LSCache, however, its `Add missing sizes` not working. I don’t have a LiteSpeed server but an apache. Is it possible to have this feature in non-ls systems?

  That feature should work with an Apache server. If it’s not working on your site, please post to our plugin support forum and provide as many details as possible about your setup. Thanks!

I am getting this error:
” WARNING
LSCache caching functions on this page are currently unavailable!
To use the caching functions you must have a LiteSpeed web server or be using QUIC.cloud CDN. Learn More ”
I am not sure if litespeed cache wp plugin works with no litespeed server!
– any idea?

  The LSCache plugin does work without a LiteSpeed server, but you don’t get the full set of features that way. You can use all of the optimization features, but you can’t use the caching features without a LiteSpeed server.
  One option, though, if you want to use the caching features, is to sign up for QUIC.cloud CDN. QUIC.cloud integrates with the LSCache plugin to let you use the caching features without having a LiteSpeed server.

Dear LS team,
I have a question regarding the use of the LSCache plugin purely for integrating with an object cache such as Redis. I know it’s natively possible to interface with Redis however I’d like to know if it’s possible to purely utilise the plugin for that purpose only, without having other features enabled (and is it at all recommended).
At this stage there’s only one maintained Redis plugin available on the wordpress plugin repo however expert feedback has had people run some comparisons and recommended LSC for Redis object cache management instead of the alternative.
Would really appreciate some feedback here and any other recommendations.

  Hi, Dee.
  Yes, you can disable all features except the object cache setting, and use it exclusively for that, if you wanted to. We don’t have any further recommendations along those lines, but it is definitely possible to use LSCache that way.
